The Carmelite White Seal
The crest of Carmel tells a story. The white star in the centre of the brown mountain peak represents the beginnings of the Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Palestine. The brown stars to the right and to the left stand for the spread of the order in the east and in the west. The twelve stars surrounding the crown remind us of the twelve points of the Carmelite Rule. The arm of Elijah wields a flaming sword that is wrapped round by the banner inscribed with his watchword; Zelo zelatus sum…With zeal I have been zealous for the Lord, God of hosts.
